The Rose Hill Recreation Commission (RHRC) is an organization that enhances the quality of life in Rose Hill, KS & USD 394 by providing a comprehensive, affordable recreation & leisure program for all ages. They are a central part of the Rose Hill community and help support the Rose Hill Fall Festival each year.

When RHRC first came to us, they were using a site builder that made even the smallest update to the site a chore for their staff. We knew they needed a new website that reflected their dedication to the community, was user-friendly, and highlighted any upcoming events.

For the foundation of the new website, we started with the WordPress framework. We love WordPress because it is open-source and flexible enough for us to customize it for each client’s specific needs, but it also has a back-end user interface that is intuitive enough for our clients to be able to log in and manage their content without any prior programming or HTML knowledge. WordPress’ back-end has saved RHRC’s staff countless hours in site editing and streamlined their workflow.

The homepage is not only appealing, but highly functional. It features an automatic feed of upcoming events, a slide show featuring big news/events happening now, sponsors of RHRC, and any important announcements. It is responsive and works well on all devices.

Integrated Event API

Converting the site to WordPress not only allowed us to create a site that was easier for the staff of RHRC to edit, but also enabled us to create an API that would pull all event information from their Event Management System, ActiveNet. This means anytime RHRC adds a new event to ActiveNet, the website automatically adds it to the correct page within the site itself. The event is categorized, styled, and added to the list of other events instantly.

The information that is pulled from ActiveNet includes:

  • Event Name
  • Event Description
  • Event Location
  • Who is running the event
  • Link to online registration, if applicable
