There are several basic SEO steps that can be followed to optimize your blog for search engines, AKA drive traffic to your site. When you create your blogging plan and outline the topics for the articles, you should also list the keywords to include in each article. You should also use your keywords for post tags and blog categories. Search engines put extra emphasis on the words and phrases used this way. You should also use your keywords in headings and post titles, and when naming pages.
