WordPress How To: Add a downloadable link to a PDF or other file

Sometimes you may need to add a file to your WordPress website that needs to be downloadable. Examples include files that are not natively viewable in a web browser, without plugins or additional applications, or that require software on the users computer. This article  explains how to add a link to a PDF file, so that the user can download and view the file. For this tutorial we are using WordPress version 3.2.

  1. Create a new post.
  2. Above the WordPress post toolbar, beside Upload/Insert, click the Add an Image icon.

  3. Browse to find the file on your computer.
  4. Click File URL and then click Insert into Post.
  5. 1-pg_resume is the link that was added to this post by following the above steps.
